The region boasts three universities and four community colleges. Washington State University Vancouver is a premier, Tier One non-residential research university with access to the breadth and depth of resources of the WSU system. Oregon Health & Science University is dedicated to improving the health and quality of life for all citizens in the region through excellence, innovation, and leadership in health care, education, and research. Oregon State University (OSU) is a land grant university designated as Oregon's state-assisted agricultural college in 1868. Sea grant, space grant, and sun grant designations came later, making OSU one of only two universities in the nation to hold all four titles. For more than 100 years, OSU has had a three-fold mission of teaching, research, and service to the people of Oregon and the world. The regions community colleges:
